Ophelia's Eulogy (SM)

Here lies Ophelia, a young noblewoman of Denmark, the daughter of Polonius, sister of Laertes, and potential wife of Prince Hamlet. To outside observers, Ophelia is the epitome of goodness, even though she may be childlike and naive. Most people believe that Ophelia is unworthy of a proper burial because of the state of mind she was in. Why would someone wish to deprive a human being of a proper burial? There is only one thing in life that is promised to everyone, and that is death. The death of anyone, royal or inferior, should be recognized by those who cared for them. Even if by now no one cares for her, it's her god given right to have a proper funeral.

Dear Ophelia, I don't blame you for going mad before your death. You must have been overwhelmed by Hamlet's behavior and the death of your father.  People refused  to pay attention to Ophelia, they never asked her what was wrong or if there was anything that could be done to help her feel better. She was ignored and viewed as mad, but did we honestly even know what the real issue was? Ophelia was alone, she didn't have anyone to comfort her in a time of great need. So here we are, paying homage to a strong woman who tried to please everyone she loved, but never received the love she truly deserved.
